Because it is our members who decide what we do the range of activities which Woodcraft offers is HUGE. During our weekly meetings there are lots of activities designed for each particular age group. Elfins absolutely love parachute games, while the Pioneers' favourite thing is making Samosas.
Hikes are organised in the Oxfordshire countryside when the warmer evenings arrive and some of us go swimming at the outdoor pool. The West Oxford Elfins always mark the end of the summer term with a sausage cook-out, sitting round a blazing campfire in one of the county's quietest beauty-spots.
Once in a while we will team up with groups from other districts in the South West Region for an activity day, usually involving a brilliant wide game - where the older members design an themed adventure trail for the younger ones, dress up as characters from the theme and devise cunning tasks that the younger ones must complete if they are to finish the route. King Arthur, Shrek and Alice in Wonderland have all provided inspiration in recent years.
The best opportunities for exciting activities take place on camp and here the accent is always on adventure. There is always something for everyone. One group returned from Norway recently with amazing stories of driving sleds with Huskies through the snowfields!
Making stuff is one of the most satisfying things we do. Here we are making bead jewellery as gifts for our hosts at a recent international camp.
We also make things for sale at the Oxford Green Fair in support of our chosen charity for the year. Last year we raised money for Water Aid.
