Singing is one of the main ways we cement our fellowship in Woodcraft. Everyone has their favourite song from the Woodcraft Song-book from the plain silly (like the "Worm Song" through to rousing songs of protest like "The Mighty Song of Peace"). We sing at our weekly meetings (all of which close with either "The Envoi" or "Link Your Hands Together"), and at all our camps and gatherings. New songs are often made up, especially during long hikes. Our songs encompass many of the values central to Woodcraft, of peace, friendship, equality and human rights.

When we start our songs, rather than coming in on "one, two three", we lead in with "ish, ash osh".

LINK YOUR HANDS TOGETHER

Link your hands together
A circle we'll make
This bond of our friendship
No power can break
Let's all sing together
In one mighty throng
Should any be weary we'll help them along
Should any be weary we'll help them along

Through our songs, our members learn some important lessons from history; about the Diggers in The World Turned Upside Down, the mass trespass on Kinder Scout in the Manchester Ramblers Song and about Rosa Parkes and the freedom riders in "If You See Me at the Back of the Bus."
